Quality is China Status
I have many years of experience as a Quality Manager in a number of international organizations dealing with the supply of materials and components from western suppliers to Asia or more specifically China.
Initially, these organizations imported less technical parts in China, owing to lack of capacity of the Chinese manufacturers; however, with the rising demand, by the Chinese manufacturers, of cost reduction more technical products were imported. In no time, the western exporter organizations became merely distributors or the products being manufactured in China as many international companies started their productions in China.
Being a responsible for Quality assurance, the Quality audit was the demand that was placed before our vendor coupled with initial tastings to ensure the quality of the products being made in China.
Fortunately, the initially submitted samples were as per the standard specifications. However, the situation was quite otherwise when a mass production was started as there were a lot of variations in the products. Such variations compelled us to halt the production and increase the rejection of the product.
We realized that there was a serious and continuous problem of quality vis-à-vis Chinese products.
The in-depth investigations surfaced that the Quality audits of the Chinese products were not done by the experts. Moreover, the initial samples for quality check were not the true representatives of the bulk products being used in the production. In fact, these testing samples
were neither made by the actual workers nor the machines which were to be used for the bulk production. There was a huge difference in the sample being provided for testing and the final product.
Even I shared my experience with some foreign experts who had been working in China in multinational manufacturers. Certainly, all were agreed on a point that there were ambiguities in terms of quality of the parts being manufactured in China.
Interestingly, during my work in China, I realized that, there were two levels of quality; one was related to the local level while the other was associated with the international level. Obviously, it’s only possible owing to the absence of quality assurance as producing two different levels of quality with same equipment and material is quite a bizarre thing.
Currently, every company striving to shift its manufacturing set up in China has to evaluate the ground realities. The companies having permanent teams of quality experts perform way better than those who cannot afford the permanent team of quality assurance in China. They have more chances of success than the rest of the companies. Ostensibly, the shifting of manufacturing units in China is not an easy job for many companies owing to these quality issues.
“Kamtex group is providing solution of above mentioned woes to all the international manufacturers and buyers in China. Our group is aiding all the concerned stakeholders to have their own permanent team of Quality experts at a reasonable cost that will minimize the risk of low quality production.
Thanking in anticipation.
